Arsenal back in for Karim Benzema

22 September 2016 - 14:34

Arsenal will revive their long-standing interest in Karim Benzema at the end of the 2016/17 season. The France international has been on the Gunners radar in recent years, but Los Blancos remain adamant that the player is not for sale.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • Benzema, 28, had a summer to forget as he was excluded from Les Bleus' Euro 2016 squad due to his involvement in the Mathieu Valbuena blackmail case.

Irrespective of this, the Frenchman has remained a key player for the European champions with his present deal only due to expire in the summer of 2019.

Reports in the Spanish press suggest that the Gunners will make one final attempt to land the marksman with a £40m bid in the offing at the end of the campaign.

Benzema has previously iterated that he is content at the Bernabeu, but the lack of trust among the club's faithful could well lure him to a fresh challenge after eight successful seasons at Madrid.
