South Africa as good as out

South Africa as good as out

27 January 2008 - 22:04

An impressive Tunisian display has virtually sent South Africa out of the African Nations after a 3-1 defeat.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • A double from Francileudo dos Santos sent Tunisia top of Group D.

Dos Santos' diving header put Tunisia ahead and then hit the post on 31 minutes before Chaouki Ben Saada converted the rebound from 10 yards.

Two minutes later Dos Santos scored his second, pouncing on a poor back pass by South Africa's Nasief Morris.

Steven Pienaar's mazy dribble played in Katlegi Mphela for Bafana Bafana's consolation in the dying minutes.

A draw now for Tunisia against Angola will send them through. On the other hand South Africa would need a win against Senegal and hope results go their way in the other match.
