Sunderland will reportedly fight it out with Fenerbahce to secure the services of Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam.
Adam is currently in the final six months of his Potters contract, but the club do have the option of extending his stay by a further year.
According to The Sun, the Black Cats have emerged as potential candidates to sign the player this month as they seek to bolster their fragile squad.
Turkish giants Fenerbahce are also said to be in the running for Adam, and it could be a tussle between the two to secure the midfielder's signature.
Potters boss Mark Hughes had earlier suggested that his side would seek to trigger the one-year extension in Adam's contract, and it would come as a surprise if the player decides to move before the transfer deadline.
Adam has notched a goal and three assists for Stoke City this season.
