The players appear to have lost faith in Ranieri

Players Weren't Happy With Ranieri

24 February 2017 - 10:04

In further developments from the news that Claudio Ranieri was sacked by Leicester City last night, it has been revealed that senior players were consulted by the owners before the decision was announced.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • Many football fans in general, not just those of Leicester City, have been saddened by the news, as one of the most likeable managers in the game was sacked, just nine months after he guided the Foxes to a historic Premier League title.

That feat was not enough to keep the Italian's job though, as the owners of Leicester look to bring in fresh ideas in a bid for Premier League survival. Just weeks ago, the owners released a statement outlining their full support for the manager, which they hoped would increase morale around the club, however results have failed to improve.

Although still a defeat, Leicester were praised for the performance in their last match, where they found themselves as underdogs again, against a strong Sevilla team, and leaving with just a 2-1 deficit before the second leg. The following morning, the owners of the club called a meeting, along with some of the senior Leicester players. Sources claim that during this meeting, the players suggested that they were unhappy with Ranieri's tactics of late, and that relationships with his coaching staff had broken down.

Leicester will be keen to appoint a new manager quickly, as they battle to remain in the league that they famously won last season. A few names have been suggested, but it is Roberto Mancini, a man who once had a loan spell with Leicester during his playing days, that the club appear keen on.
