Following Atletico Madrid's Champions League Final defeat to local rivals Real Madrid last season, manager Diego Simeone has revealed that he considered leaving the club, and turned down a £30 million offer from another major European club.
When Simeone took over Atletico Madrid, they were struggling in La Liga, but in the five years that he has been there, he has created a team that is constantly competing with Real Madrid and Barcelona, and one that finished above both of them in 2014 to win their first La Liga title in 18 years.
Despite the progress, that Champions League defeat left Simeone and everyone else involved with the club hurting, with the Argentinian questioning his future at the club. Spanish media outlet AS have reported that Simeone was offered somewhere in the region of £30 million to manage another major European club, thought to be Paris Saint Germain.
With such a tempting offer on the table, Simeone admitted it was a tough decision for him, as he questioned whether he could take Atletico any further. He decided to remain in the dugout at the Vincente Calderon, and now has his team in fourth place in La Liga and facing a Champions League quarter final against Leicester City. He will be desperate to win that competition in order to put the devastation of last season behind him.
