Schweinsteiger completes MLS move

29 March 2017 - 17:36

Bastian Schweinsteiger has completed his move to MLS side Chicago Fire today, after departing Manchester United.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • The World Cup winning German international found it difficult to break into Jose Mourinho's plans this season at Old Trafford, making just four appearances for the Premier League club.

Although the move was announced earlier this month, it was not completed until today due to the 32 year old having to wait for his visa to be confirmed. Upon arrival in the States, Sky Sports reports that Chicago's international airport was filled with fans, waiting for the opportunity to see their new star.

Schweinsteiger has had a glittering career so far and is keen to prove that he still has plenty to offer. His signing is a great capture for Chicago Fire, which will help to increase the reputation of the MLS further. He joins the club on an initial one year deal, which will see Schweinsteiger earn a reported salary of £3.6 million.

Manchester United's official website released a statement about their former players move, stating that they "would like to wish Basti the very best of luck in the next chapter of his career."
