Manchester United are prepared to reward goalkeeper David de Gea with a contract extension that will see a 25 percent increase in his current £200,000-a-week wages.

  • Chelsea midfielder won't join Premier League rivals

  • The Spain international almost joined Real Madrid back in the summer of 2015 after United agreed to sign Keylor Navas in exchange in a player-plus-cash deal.

However, a faulty fax machine came to the rescue of United with a delayed transmission of paperwork on deadline day pulling the plug on the proposed deal.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils will seek to act quickly on the contract status of De Gea amid reported interest from Los Blancos.

De Gea currently has two years left on his existing deal with the option of a further 12 months on his contract, and the club will seek to offer an extension to raise his wages to around £260,000-a-week.

The 26-year-old has been hugely instrumental in goal in recent seasons, and without him, United would be struggling to earn crucial points in key games.
