Arsenal left back Gael Clichy has thanked Arsene Wenger for the trust he has placed in him after Clichy received his first call up to the international squad among three other left-backs for France.
"The work I have put in over the past few years is starting to pay dividends," said Clichy. "It is thanks to Arsene Wenger, who has always believed in me. I owe him a lot and I hope to take the confidence I have built up into the France team.
"It is obviously a big surprise, even if people have spoken about it for a long time," he added.
"I was more and more expectant at the time of each squad selection and I was starting to drive myself to despair."
