Reading are through to the Championship play off final

Royals are the first team to reach Wembley

Reading are the first confirmed team in the Championship play off final, after beating Fulham 2-1 on aggregate, in what was a closely contested encounter.

  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • With the scores level at 1-1 after the first leg, it was all to play for as the two teams met again at the Madjeski Stadium. Fulham were the team that came closest to opening the deadlock in the first half, but it was goalless on the night at the interval.

Just four minutes into the second half, a handball in the Fulham area saw Reading awarded a penalty. Yann Kermorgant stepped up and tucked it away, to put the Royals within touching distance of a Wembley final.

The rest of the match was made up of a bombardment of Fulham attacks, with Ali Al Habsi performing brilliantly in the Reading goal, keeping out everything that Fulham threw at them.

John Swift had the chance to double Reading's lead, but somehow missed an open goal from two yards out. Despite that, Reading held on to a 2-1 aggregate victory, sending them through to the final, just one step away from the Premier League.

Reading will meet either Sheffield Wednesday or Huddersfield Town in that final, who meet in their second leg on Wednesday, after a 0-0 draw in the first encounter.
