Middlesbrough target Leeds manager

Former Swansea manager Monk is highly rated within the game

Middlesbrough target Leeds manager

22 May 2017 - 11:44

Although the end of the Premier League season has only just arrived, planning for next season is already underway for Middlesbrough, as they plot a return to the top flight following their relegation.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • Leeds United manager, Garry Monk, has emerged as the top candidate to take over as manager at The Riverside.

Former Swansea City defender and manager Monk lead Leeds United to a seventh place finish in the Championship this season, just one place outside of the play offs. Reports suggested recently that the Leeds bosses were unhappy with that performance, but Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson believes that he has the ability to build a promotion winning team.

Steve Agnew has been in charge of first team affairs since the dismissal of Aitor Karanka in March, but it is expected that he will not be offered the job permanently.

Several names are said to be interested in taking charge of Middlesbrough, but SunSport suggests that Monk is the leading candidate. Former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs has also been linked with the role, as he looks for his first managerial role following his time as assistant manager at Old Trafford.
