Trapattoni must wait for Ire

Trapattoni must wait for Ire

05 February 2008 - 23:50

Giovanni Trapattoni will see out the remaining four months of his contract with Red Bull Salzburg despite the reported media speculation that the Italian is being lined up to take over the Ireland full time post.

  • Chelsea captain for Man City game confirmed
  • Chelsea star set to submit transfer request
  • Trapattoni is reputed to be the FAI’s preferred candidate to lead Ireland into the World Cup qualification campaign in the autumn.

But if he is to be appointed, it is unlikely to happen until his contractual obligations in Austria come to an end this summer.

Salzburg spokesperson Thomas Blazek told the BBC: “His contract finishes at the end of the season. He will be fulfilling his contract. After that, we will see what happens.

“We are just concentrating on the winning of the title for the second time in a row. That’s what Trapattoni wants and nothing else. There is nothing else to say at this time.”
