Romario to retire in March

05 February 2008 - 23:58

Brazilian goalscoring legend Romario has announced that at the end of March he will retire from football - both in a playing and coaching capacity. Romario will now help Brazil's 2014 World Cup hosting campaign.

  • Barcelona have genuine interest in Chelsea forward
  • Man Utd handed boost in signing West Ham star?
  • The forty-two year old had been expected to announce that his playing days were coming to a close.

It was believed he would continue as a coach, but Romario has changed his mind.

"After the 30th, I stop. I will not go on even as coach," he confirmed.

"I will contribute to promoting the 2014 World Cup. I will work on that.
