Benitez wants Pepe Reina reunion

Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina could be set for a third reunion with Rafael Benitez as the Newcastle United manager wants to bring him to the club this summer.

  • Newcastle will be back in the Premier League next season, after a single season in the Championship. The Magpies are desperate to become an established top flight club again and Benitez knows that he needs to make some smart signings to assure that.

Pepe Reina is out of favour at Napoli and, as he enters the final year of his contract, could be on the move this summer.

Reina's agent has claimed that whilst nothing has happened yet, he cannot rule out a Premier League return during this transfer window, ChronicleLive reports.

Benitez has signed Pepe Reina twice in the past, first for Liverpool before taking him to current club Napoli, during his managerial spell with the Serie A club.

Although he has just one year left on his current contract, it is believed that Napoli are looking to raise £5 million for the 34-year-old. Newcastle are not keen on spending that amount for the experienced goalkeeper, meaning that they will have to negotiate considerably if a deal is to be done.
