Gilberto to leave Arsenal

Gilberto to leave Arsenal

07 February 2008 - 06:15

Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva has admitted that he may soon be leaving the club after falling behind Mathieu Flamini in the pecking order at the Gunners. The Brazilian has become frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunity.

  • The Brazilian international had been linked with several moves away from the Emirates during the January transfer window but for whatever reason he didn't leave the club.

Gilberto has lost his place in the first team at Arsenal due to the superb form of fellow midfielder Matthieu Flamini. The 31-year old has been at the Gunners for over six years now winning the title once and the FA Cup twice.

"Of course it has been hard for me, everybody knows that and it is no surprise given the position I am in," quipped Gilberto.

"But I try to manage the situation; I am calm and am professional as I have always been.

"But we will see at the end of the season."
