Cameroon beat hosts Ghana

Cameroon beat hosts Ghana

07 February 2008 - 21:51

Ghana vs Cameroon: Cameroon defeated Ghana the hosts of the African Nations Cup, Ghana, as they headed towards their fifth African Nations title this evening defeating Ghana 1-0 in the semi-final thanks to a match winning goal from substitute Alain Nkong.

  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?
  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?

  • On the half-hour mark, Marseille striker Andre Ayew showed some nimble footwork to beat two Cameroon defenders but his low drive lacked punch.

Cameroon went close to taking control seven minutes from the break when Newcastle midfielder Geremi struck a superb 35-meter free-kick which hit the crossbar.

In the second-half Ghana began to put some free flowing moves together and looked the more likely to score with Muntari teamed up well with Michael Essien -- only for the Chelsea star's shot to fly high over.

However, in the 71st minute, Cameroon scored the only goal of the game against the run of play. After a long clearance out of the Lions' defence, Samuel Eto'o set up substitute Nkong -- and the midfielder did well to fire home from 15 meters to silence the home fans.

Reading defender Andre Bikey was sent off in the final minute for pushing over the referee.
