Chelsea in for Modric again

Chelsea in for Modric again

09 February 2008 - 11:06

Chelsea manager Avram Grant is believed to be tempted to make another offer for Croatian international midfielder Luka Modric from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer. Grant is ready to test the Croatian club's resolve with an £11 million offer.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • A FIFA ruling could allow Modric o buy himself out of his contract for as little as £1.5 million during next January’s transfer window which Andy Webster famously exploited at Rangers.

Zagreb will be keen to cash in on their prized asset before he decides to leave for a considerably less fee.

Modric’s situation is mademore unclear due to his relationship with Zdravko Mamic, who is the vice president of Dinamo Zagreb. Bizarrely, Mamic decided to hold talks with several English sides before announcing the player wasn't for sale. This angered Modric who was hoping to secure a move last summer.

Should Chelsea make an offer for the player - who previously stated he wanted a move to Spain - Chelsea are unlikely to pay the £20 million asking price requested, but perhaps half of that.
