Three Serie A clubs set to battle over Arsenals Carl Jenkinson

Jenkinson might move to the Serie A

Three Serie A clubs set to battle over Arsenal's Carl Jenkinson

31 July 2017 - 13:50

Carl Jenkinson, who spent last season out of the team and the two seasons before that on loan at West Ham United, is the subject of a three-way battle between Italian clubs Verona, Cagliari, and Sassuolo.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • Jenkinson only made one appearance in Arsenal's senior side last season and spent the majority of his time playing for the reserves. His previous two seasons were spent at West Ham where he showed some promise in the first team, making 52 appearances. A serious knee injury scuppered his progress and his return to Arsenal for the 2016/17 season had been torrid.

Arsenal already made it clear that they are willing to listen to offers for the 25-year-old. According to Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport, Verona, Cagliari, and Sassuolo are all battling it out for the England international's signature.

Verona were thought to have been front-runners for Jenkinson but Cagliari and Sassuolo both expressed "aggressive competition" for the full-back.

The Serie A teams will have even more competition with the likes of Swansea and new Premier League boys Brighton and Hove Albion. Jenkinson would prefer to remain in the Premier League but with the World Cup coming up in 2018, he might want to ply his trade overseas to try and break into the squad.
