Trapattoni takes Ireland role

13 February 2008 - 17:28

Giovanni Trapattoni has agreed to become the new boss of the Republic of Ireland. Currently coaching Red Bull Salzburg, Trapattoni has a wealth of experience at the top level including Juventus and Inter Milan.

  • Arsenal make surprise decision on Viktor Gyokeres
  • Arsenal to battle Napoli to sign Alexsandro Ribeiro?

  • The 68-year-old Italian is currently employed as the coach of Red Bull Salzburg and will officially take the reins in May when the Austrian league season finishes.

The appointment of Trapattoni on a two-year contract brings to an end a long-running saga which stretches back to the departure of former coach Steve Staunton last October.

Trapattoni won six Serie A titles with Juventus and one with Inter Milan during a glittering career in Italy.
