Arsenal defender signs new two-year contract

11 October 2017 - 20:38

England international Calum Chambers has committed his future to Arsenal by signing a fresh two-year contract. The 22-year-old is currently recovering from a hip injury sustained in the League Cup win over Doncaster Rovers last month.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Villa trip

  • Chambers, 22, joined the north London giants from boyhood club Southampton back in the summer of 2014, and he has since amassed 60 appearances in all competitions.

The versatile defender spent the previous campaign on loan with Middlesbrough and there was the talk of him leaving him for Crystal Palace on a permanent basis in the summer.

However, Arsenal have now confirmed via their official website that Chambers will remain at the Emirates until the summer of 2021.

"Calum Chambers has signed a two-year contract extension until 2021," read a statement on the Gunners' website.

Chambers has not got a look-in for the Premier League this term due to his recurrent injuries, but he will be hoping to return to full fitness in order to feature in the three-man backline.

Arsenal will seek to continue their seven-match unbeaten run across all competitions when they take on Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
