Can, 23, presently has just eight months left on his Reds contract, and according to Tuttosport, the Old Lady could lodge a fresh attempt for his services in the New Year.

The Reds have, until now, failed to negotiate a fresh deal with the holding midfielder, but it is suggested that they could risk him for the final months of his deal with Klopp desperate for him to stay.

Can is currently on a weekly wage package of around &pound55,000-a-week, and he is said to want at least double the figure in order to put pen to paper on a new long-term contract.

The former Bayer Leverkusen graduate started the season in impressive fashion with a flurry of goals, but his inconsistency has kicked in over the past month - something which has hindered his chances of a pay rise.
