Manchester United make key decision on defender

19 March 2018 - 13:51

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly sanctioned the exit of Matteo Darmian prior to the 2018 summer transfer window.

  • The Italy international has already held negotiations with Juventus over a potential move, and according to Calciomercato, the deal is nearing a conclusion.

Darmian was impressive for the Red Devils during the backend of the previous campaign, but he has struggled to command a similar role this term with just five appearances in the Premier League.

Juventus are yet to make a formal approach for the versatile defender, but reports suggest that the Italian outfit have already finalised terms with the Italian, who has set his sights on a Turin return.

Should Darmian leave Old Trafford, Valencia's Jose Gaya has been earmarked as a potential replacement with Jose Mourinho wanting an efficient backup to Ashley Young at left-back.

Luke Shaw has been offered the chance to play deputy to Young this season, but Mourinho is unconvinced that the 22-year-old has a long-term future at the club.
