Former Chelsea player Frank Lampard has said that he is excited he is making his first move into management with Championship side Derby County.
The former England international signed a three year deal with the Rams to become their seventh manager in three years.
“I’m excited to be making my first move into management with a club with such huge tradition and history," Lampard told the club's official website.
The Championship side will be hoping that the former West Ham player can make them gain Premier League promotion despite him being an inexperienced coach.
The last time Derby played in the Premier League was in the 2007/2008 season where they were relegated after securing only 11 points, the lowest in the league's history.
Derby County's Executive Chairman Mel Morris, CBE, also said that he is happy to get someone like Lampard, who he admires.
The Chairman also said that Lampard is someone who has the "character and charisma” to be a great manager for the club. In his playing days, Lampard won a lot of trophies that included the UEFA Champions League, three Premier League titles, one Europa League, two League Cups and four FA Cup titles. He was also a regular for the England national team.
