Liverpool have made a £150m bid for Real Madrid player Marco Asensio, The Sun reports.

Liverpool are to bolster their squad ahead of the new season with the aim of winning silverware after losing the UEFA Champions League final to Real Madrid.

The Reds have already lost midfielder Emre Can to Juventus and are looking to add the 22-year-old to their make up for it and improve the squad.

If the deal is completed, it will be the most expensive transfer in British football history, surpassing Paul Pogba's £89m transfer from Juventus to Manchester United.

It is not certain whether Real are willing to sell a player that has been touted to be great in future.

Asensio is currently at the World Cup with the Spanish national team as they bid to win the tournament they lost in Brazil four years ago.

Asensio made nine Champions League appearances for Real last season as they won their third straight title in Europe's most prestigious club competition.
