Manchester United defender wants new deal

Manchester United defender wants new deal

27 July 2018 - 09:46

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has revealed that he wants a new contract to extend his stay at Old Trafford beyond next season.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • The former Southampton left-back has been linked with a move out of Jose Mourinho's side after failing to secure a regular first team place last season.

Sky Sports reports him saying the following: "I want to earn a contract. I don't want a contract because, in the next year I'm a free agent, so they might look to tie me down."

Shaw added that he is willing to fight for a new contract by playing his way into the starting line-up.

To achieve this goal, Shaw will probably have to displace Ashley Young who has made the left-back position his own after he was converted from a left-winger to a defender.

Young was also picked ahead of Shaw to represent England at the World Cup in Russia. Shaw is currently on tour with the squad in America, while Young is still on vacation, resting from the stress of the World Cup.
