Mike Ashley denies making "V-Sign" to Newcastle fans

05 October 2018 - 06:29

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has refuted reports that he gave a "V-Sign" to the club's fans last week. Ashley has come under fire for his relationship with Toon Army supporters and the new rumours will add further fuel to the fire.

  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • In recent years Mike Ashley has put up the club for sale but seems to be happier and willing to keep hold of his investment in Newcastle United.

In a rare statement, Ashley said: "I did not make a V-sign. To suggest otherwise is both inaccurate and irresponsible.

“The matter is in the hands of our legal team - and they will be contacting relevant newspaper editors in due course.

“It is hugely disappointing, given the reason why we set up the meeting, that certain elements of the media are trying to undermine the club by creating a story out of nothing.”

A further Newcastle United statement later read: “ Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley would like to put the record straight in relation to press reporting of events following a dinner that he attended yesterday evening with Rafa Benítez and the players.”
