Arsenal are reportedly close to announcing their first signing of the winter transfer window with Denis Suarez potentially joining them from Barcelona.

The former Manchester City graduate has experienced a tough season with the Blaugrana this term where he has managed just six appearances in all competitions and he appears set to leave the Camp Nou this month.

With this in mind, the Gunners are understood to have made their approach for the Spain international and Sky Italia claims that they are confident of securing a &pound20m move for the former Villareal man.

Arsenal are currently sufficiently covered at the heart of the midfield with Xhaka, Torreira, Guendouzi and Elneny being the senior options but Suarez provides the added versatility by playing further up the field.

Usually a central midfielder by trade, the Spaniard has regularly featured in the wider attacking positions and he should provide the much-needed depth and competition with Mkhitaryan and Welbeck presently ruled out with long-term injuries.
