Manchester United trigger contract extension of Brazilian midfielder

12 March 2019 - 17:00

Manchester United have reportedly triggered the extension in Andreas Pereira's contract to prolong his stay for another season at the least.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The Brazilian's previous deal was due to expire at the end of the campaign and there were suggestions that he could leave on a Bosman in the summer.

However, the midfielder's fortunes have somewhat changed with the arrival of Ole at the helm and his performances have convinced the board to extend his stay, PA Sport claims.

Pereira has spent the past two seasons on loan with Granada and Valencia but he has managed to break into the United first-team this time around with 14 appearances in all competitions.

With the extension, United have also been afforded with additional gametime to negotiate a new and improved deal for the midfielder, who could have a long-term future with the club.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are currently two points behind Arsenal in the race for the final Champions League spot but they can make amends with eight more games remaining for the season.
