  • The Portuguese footballer has enjoyed a standout campaign with Sporting and he has already notched 23 goals for the club across all competitions.

According to Evening Standard, the Red Devils have been keeping a close eye on the developments of the Sporting captain and they are prepared to make a formal approach for his services when the transfer window reopens.

Paul Pogba has shone from the heart of the club's midfield this term but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to want another goalscoring midfielder in the ranks, should he be appointed as the permanent boss at the end of the season.

Fernandes currently has a £85m release clause written into his current contract but it is claimed that Sporting could accept a fee in the region of £50m to sanction his sale during the summer transfer window.
