Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira has revealed that Manchester United are still short of meeting the asking price for Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
The Portugal international has been constantly linked with the Red Devils this summer, but the club have yet to reach a transfer agreement with Sporting.
According to Schira, Sporting have placed a £62m price tag on the head of Fernandes and United are currently £7m short of meeting the valuation to finalise a deal.
Fernandes has recently acknowledged that he would like to ply his trade in the English top-flight, but he has also indicated that he would not force through a departure from Sporting this summer.
He has previously been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur but the north London side seem to have switched their attention towards signing Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis instead.
United are scheduled to face Tottenham Hotspur in tomorrow's friendly in China. The game would wrap up the club's pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East.
