Chelsea will reportedly seek to pursue a new left-sided defender once their transfer ban comes to a conclusion next year.
The west London giants are banned from signing players until the summer of 2020 but that embargo could be shortened by six months, should they win their appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
According to Soccer Link, Frank Lampard's side are not overly concerned with the status of the transfer ban and they could be prepared to wait until next summer to do business.
The same outlet claims that Gaya has been earmarked as the prime target to strengthen the left side of the defence where the Blues currently have the services of Emerson and Marcos Alonso.
Emerson is presently the preferred choice for the left-back position ahead of Alonso and reports indicate that Lampard wants to replace the latter with a strong competitor in the ranks.
Chelsea have managed just five points from the opening four games of the new league season. They are scheduled to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on the road this weekend.
