Arsene Wenger dismisses Manchester United's title prospects

11 September 2019 - 17:26

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that he is not convinced Manchester United can fight with the title with the current crop of young and experienced players.

  • Predicted Arsenal line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Chelsea, Jorginho starts
  • Dusan Vlahovic breaks silence amid Chelsea transfer talk

  • United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has focused on the progress of younger players and this was quite visible through the summer transfer business where the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James were pursued.

Alongside the duo, Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood have also been handed with playing time this season and each of them have been impressive with their respective roles.

Still, that has not enhanced the results with just five points from the opening four league games and Wenger feels the youngsters are not ready to transform the Red Devils into title challengers.

"That’s the big question mark now. You feel there is something coming out but it’s not ready. That’s why I say when you watch them play they are not candidates to fight for the championship," he told BeIN Sports.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James have made a huge contribution during the opening phase of the campaign and the latter was recently named the club's Player of the Month after bagging three goals.

Despite this, there has been a soft spot in the defence at particular stages and that combined with the reduced attacking threat has contributed to a disappointing start to the season.
