Liverpool snapped up Billy Koumetio from French club Orleans at the turn of the year after the Anfield club's backroom staff spotted the impressive young centre-back on a scouting mission. Koumetio, who is a powerful and very able defender currently playing for Liverpool's under-18 side, could go on to be one of the best defenders in the world.

  • The Anfield side have made a habit of signing the best talent across the world in recent years, and the acquisition of Koumetio will almost certainly not be an exception. Liverpool paid a reported 5 million euros to sign Koumetio in January 2019.

Koumetio began his career at one of Lyon's feeder clubs FC Vaulx-en-Velin before linking up with Lyon. Koumetio moved to the next step of his career with Ligue 1 giants Lyon at the age of 11 before making the move to US Orleans. The 1.92cm defender then progressed through to the cusp of the first-team at Orleans before Liverpool made their move.

The left-footed defender prefers to play in the middle of defence and is strong in the tackle, composed with the ball at his feet and brilliant in the air. The centre-back emerged at Lyon in the club's youth squad and was thrust into contention for the under-15 side aged just 12.

The promising defender has already caught the eye for Liverpool's under-18 side aged just 16, particularly for his ability in the air and is already being earmarked for a long-term role alongside Liverpool legend Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the club's defence.
