Manchester United to move for Tottenham Hotspur defender

United to swoop for Alderweireld?

Manchester United to move for Tottenham Hotspur defender

01 October 2019 - 15:44

Manchester United are reportedly planning to revive their interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld during the winter transfer window.

  • Chelsea ready to pay £87m to sign Lautaro Martinez
  • Chelsea winger absent for PSG trip with hamstring injury

  • The Belgium international has just nine months remaining on his existing deal with Spurs and so far, there has been no indication that he would be prepared to sign an extension.

According to Inside Futbol, the Red Devils are keeping a close eye on the player's proceedings and they could tempt Spurs to part ways with the centre-back at the turn of the year.

The Mancunian giants pursued the likes of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to bolster the backline during the summer and the pair have already had a huge influence.

Still, there has been a sense of vulnerability at the heart of the defence where Victor Lindelof has been guilty of making positional mistakes at certain stages this campaign.

Lindelof only recently committed his future to the Red Devils for the long-term but United still seem keen on pursuing an experienced head, who can provide competition.
