Arsenal were reportedly keen on signing Isco from Real Madrid during the summer transfer window before they loaned Dani Ceballos from the Spanish giants.
According to Marca, the Gunners had initially sought to land Isco from the Bernabeu and they had made a bid of around £40m to pursue his signature.
However, their bid was knocked back by the Madrid giants and that contributed to their interest in Ceballos whom they successfully signed on a year-long loan.
Isco has endured a tough time with Los Blancos over the past 14 months and in the current campaign, he has managed just three league appearances with a hamstring injury hampering him.
Elsewhere, Ceballos has been a good success for the Gunners during the opening phase of the campaign and he has already amassed two assists and one goal across all competitions.
Arsenal were unable to include the option to buy on the Spaniard's loan deal and he is widely expected to return to Real Madrid when the season comes to a close.
