Serie A giants AS Roma are reportedly confident of signing Chris Smalling on a permanent basis from Manchester United when the season comes to a close.
The England international joined the Giallorossi on a season-long loan from the Red Devils over the summer but they were not able to agree on the option to buy.
Earlier this week, it had been indicated that the Red Devils may consider keeping the services of Smalling next season with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer impressed with the centre-back's performances in Rome.
However, according to Sky Italia, that does not seem the case and the Italian are growingly optimistic of committing the central defender to a long-term contract with the club.
Smalling, who made 34 appearances for the Red Devils last season, is currently said to be valued at around £12.9m and that remains within the range of the Giallorossi next summer.
Roma recently registered a second successive league victory and that has propelled them into the top four. Next up, they have a tricky challenge with Napoli, who are one point behind them, making the trip to Stadio Olimpico.
