Manchester United want to seal January move for Spanish left-back

10 November 2019 - 20:08

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a mid-season deal for Valencia's Jose Gaya as they seek to strengthen the left side of their defence.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The Red Devils have been utilising Ashley Young and Brandon Williams in the left-back position since September with Luke Shaw struggling to overcome a hamstring concern.

According to Deporte Valenciano, the Red Devils are keeping a close eye on the performances of Gaya and they are expected to prioritise a move for his services when the transfer window reopens.

Williams has recently impressed with every opportunity for the Red Devils but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems determined on pursuing a young recruit with valuable first-team experience.

Gaya, who has made more than 200 appearances for Valencia, has been a long-term target for the Red Devils and he was initially monitored by the club's scouts during Jose Mourinho's tenure at the club.

United returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday with a 3-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion. They are still only in the seventh spot with a nine-point deficit to the Champions League positions.
