Chelsea back to second spot

Chelsea back to second spot

31 March 2008 - 22:42

Chelsea 1-0 Middlesbrough Chelsea managed to win against Middlesbrough in a match which could have gone the other way had luck favoured Boro.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • Chelsea dominated the first-half and they managed to score early with just five minutes on the clock. Ricardo Carvalho was the unlikely scorer, heading in a Wayne Bridge free kick from the left. It is his first premier league goal for almost a year and it saved Chelsea.

Boro had their chances in the last quarter of an hour when Afonso Alves hit the post, it was Cudicini's misjudged slide that helped him win the ball. The Brazilian struck far left outside the box and could only manage to hit the wood work.

The drama continued when Alves hit the wood work again, this time with his head and the rebounded ball was powerfully headed in by Wheater and hit the crossbar this time. Downing had some efforts on goal, but all went in vain and Chelsea will take the three points.
