Brazilian star confirms Chelsea are in contract discussions

24 December 2019 - 20:06

Brazilian star Willian has acknowledged that his representative is in negotiations with Chelsea regarding a new and improved contract.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • The 31-year-old has been with the Blues since the summer of 2013 and has established himself as one of the club's key players from the starting XI.

He has indeed received criticism from the fans for some of his performances this term but has shown his worth when the Blues have needed him to step up.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Willian said that he is clearly content to extend his stay with the west London giants but the decision will ultimately depend on the club.

"[I want to stay] because I like to play here. It's not only my decision, we have to decide together with the club. We've had some conversations. I hope I can say to you guys that I will stay but now I cannot say," he told.

Willian has been a constant starter under Frank Lampard since the beginning of September and he recently bagged a brace in the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on the road.

That victory has eased few of the club's concerns and they are currently holding a four-point advantage over Sheffield United in the race for the final Champions League spot.

Willian's current deal expires in June 2020 and he is said to be eyeing the minimum of a two-year contract to stay committed to the Blues. He is presently attracting interest from the likes of Juventus and Barcelona.
