Keane wants £50 million

Keane wants £50 million

03 April 2008 - 23:22

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has told his board that he wants around £40 to £50 million if he is to take the club to the next level. Sunderland look to have survived in the Premiership this year, but Keane is eager to bring success to the Stadium of Light.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • "We know we need more in the summer and that's what I'll be asking for," Keane revealed. "I would be looking for another £40m or £50m. That is the least we need if we want to compete and go to the next level.

"The next level is competing with the likes of Villa, Blackburn and even the Spurs of this world - you have to forget about the big four, they're in a different world.

"This year, especially with the injuries we had at the start, it was about making sure we were in the Premier League next year. I spent about £35m or £40m last year, but that was on about 14 or 15 players.

"This year our squad is slightly stronger, but we need more quality. That's what I'll be asking for and hopefully the investors will come up with it. We'll wait and see."
