Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly make an attempt to sign Chris Smalling from Manchester United when the transfer window reopens in five months' time.
The 30-year-old is presently on a season-long loan deal at AS Roma and the Serie A giants are likely to make a proposal to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.
However, Calciomercato claims that Spurs are also in the running to sign the English centre-back and they could possibly go on a bidding battle with the Giallorossi for the player.
United had valued Smalling at just £12m when he was loaned out to the Serie A club last summer but they have recently increased the price tag to £19m on the back of his impressive displays in Italy.
Tottenham are likely to lose Jan Vertonghen on a free transfer when his contract expires in four months' time and Smalling has been identified as an experienced option, who can replace the Belgian in the club's ranks.
