Solskjaer clear about De Gea's position

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he has no concerns with David de Gea

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that David de Gea remains the club's number one goalkeeper despite the recent mistake against Everton in the Premier League.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • The Spaniard's poorly attempted clearance contributed to the Toffees' registering a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park and there has since been speculation that he could be shown the exit door in the summer.

Sergio Romero is expected to start in goal for the forthcoming FA Cup tie against Derby County but Solskjaer has stressed that won't have any effect on the position of De Gea for the league duties.

"Sergio has done well in the games he's played definitely, but I have no qualms about playing David in every game because of what he's done. His performances have been great," he told Evening Standard.

"The save straight after, I thought was 100 percent offside with [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin, but he wasn't. So that was a point-saving save for us. He's made amends."

De Gea has come up with a number of top-notch displays in the United shirt and he managed to redeem himself against the Toffees with a superb diving save to deny Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Still, he has made a number of noticeable errors leading to goals in recent years and can't afford any more, particularly with United graduate Dean Henderson shining with Sheffield United on loan.
