Impressive youngster Tahith Chong is expected to sign a new contract with his club Manchester United, despite interst from abroad. Barcelona and Real Madrid are both monitoring Chong's progress and have been linked with a 20 million transfer move for the player.
The Netherlands under-21 international is expected to sign a £30,000 per week contract at Old Trafford this week, after the player's agent confirmed that Chong's plan is to stay put.
Erkan Alkan, the player's agent, told reporters: “There was a lot of interest, we talked to big clubs, but Manchester United came up with a good plan for Tahith. He likes to stay with the club that brought him from the Netherlands.”
Chong has played five times for United since making the move from Feyenoord in 2016, and is widely considered to be a long-term prospect for the first-team. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has played Chong three times in the Premier League so far this season, with the player taking part in a total of 10 games for United.
Barcelona will be disappointed to miss out on the youngster as they had hoped to secure his signature for a fee of around 8 million euros this summer.
