Leicester City and Sheff United battle to sign top goalkeeper

Leicester City and Sheff Utd are both amongst the teams tracking the progress of impressive Trabzonspor shot stopper Ugurcan Cakir. The Turkish international, who is valued by his club at £25 million, is considered one of the best young keepers in the world.

  • At 23-years-old, Cakir has time to develop and the Foxes believe that the Trabzonspor man could be a long-term replacement for current number 1 Kasper Schmeichel.

In addition, Sheff Utd are tracking the progress of Cakir as there are still question marks over the long term future of current on loan goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who could be set for a return back to Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign.

The player has made 29 appearances for his current club, for whom he finally ousted a long-serving keeper from the first team back in 2019. The keeper has just over two years remaining on his deal with the Super Lig side, who may be forced to sell their star player to generate funds this summer. The club's president admits that the team has to find money soon for their own long-term future.

“€10-20m has to enter the club every year. If we continue along this track we will clear our debts long-term but we must stay disciplined,” the club's president Ahmet Agaoglu said.
