Manchester United extend contract of Dutch defender

Manchester United have reportedly renewed the deal of Timothy Fosu-Mensah after triggering the extension clause available.

  • The 22-year-old's contract was initially due to expire at the end of the season but the club have now extended his stay until the summer of 2021, as per Sky Sports News.

Fosu-Mensah has not turned out for the Red Devils since the 2016/17 top-flight campaign and has spent the past two seasons on loan with Crystal Palace and Fulham.

He has yet to make a single appearance under current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, having been recovering from a serious knee injury sustained playing for the Cottagers in April 2019.

Fosu-Mensah has been linked with a possible return to the Eredivisie with Ajax in the past and that could be an option for him despite the fact that his deal has been extended.

The Red Devils are planning to strengthen the squad with a right winger and central midfielder this summer and they are likely to sanction the sale of unwanted players to boost their transfer kitty.
