RB Leipzig chief dismisses Timo Werner deal with Chelsea

06 June 2020 - 17:00

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has said that the Chelsea have yet to make contact with the club over a possible summer move for Timo Werner.

  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Burnley clash
  • Man Utd attacker suspended for Brentford game

  • A recent report from The Guardian revealed that the Blues have already agreed personal terms with the striker and they are expected to trigger the £50m release clause in his contract.

However, Mintzlaff has dismissed the story by insisting that the west London giants have yet to make any formal approach to sign the Germany international this summer.

"We haven't had an exchange with Chelsea yet. So far, Timo Werner has not drawn the clause, nor has a club sent a transfer contract," he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

Werner has bagged 31 goals during the course of the current season for Leipzig. He has also registered 12 assists for the German outfit, who are currently third in the Bundesliga.

The 24-year-old has been constantly linked with Liverpool since the beginning of the year but it appears that he could be on his way to Stamford Bridge. The Reds are reluctant to activate his clause amid the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
