Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has clarified that the Blues are not in the running to sign Angel Gomes, who has recently declined to sign a new contract with Manchester United.
The 19-year-old's contract with the Red Devils expires on June 30 and he is set to become a free-agent from tomorrow. The Blues have been fancied to sign him over the past few months for a small compensation fee for the training costs, but Lampard has dismissed the speculation.
Speaking in a press conference on Tuesday, the Blues boss said: "Yes, I can elaborate to the point that it's never been mentioned at my end; so that's it."
Gomes refused a fresh £25,000-a-week contract offer from United earlier this month and it is reported that the teenager wants regular first-team football elsewhere.
A number of Italian and Spanish clubs are said to be interested in his services and he is unlikely to be short of offers ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
Gomes is widely regarded as one of the best young graduates at United, but he has opted to leave the club, having made only three starts this term.
