Chelsea have reportedly opened negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen as they seek to secure the services of Kai Havertz.
The German has been in fine form for the Bundesliga outfit this term and he has registered 17 goals and nine assists across all competitions.
The Athletic recently revealed that the attacker has already agreed personal terms with the Blues after holding talks with manager Frank Lampard.
It now appears that the club have opened negotiations with Leverkusen over a transfer and they are willing to pay an initial fee of around £70m.
Leverkusen are said to demand at least £90m for their player and the Blues are prepared to settle the remaining sum in the form of add-ons.
The west London giants are currently the only club in the running to sign the attacker with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich put off by the price tag.
Blues' technical adviser Petr Cech is scheduled to make the trip to Germany after Sunday to finalise Havertz's move to the club.
