Istanbul Basaksehir keen on signing Mesut Ozil?

21 July 2020 - 21:30

Turkish champions Istanbul Basaksehir are looking at the possibility of signing Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil this summer.

  • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso
  • Chelsea ready new contract for star midfielder
  • Ozil has played no part for the Gunners since the season restart and it appears quite clear that he has no future under manager Mikel Arteta.

With less than 12 months' remaining on his contract, the German has shown no intention of heading for the exit door but there continues to remain speculation regarding his future.

According to 90min, Basaksehir are aiming to lure the former World Cup winner to Istanbul ahead of their debut campaign in the Champions League group stage.

The club were recently crowned the champions of Turkey for the first time in their history and it is claimed that they could be prepared to meet Ozil's current £350,000-a-week wages with the backing of the government.

Ozil has previously talked about the prospect of ending his career in Turkey with Fenerbahce said to be his preferred destination. Fenerbahce, however, are not in a position to meet his salary demands.
