Lescott gets England call

Lescott gets England call

03 September 2007 - 12:02

Joleon Lescott has been called up for the full England squad for the first ever time. Lescott has bagged two goals from defence already this season, against Tottenham and Bolton. A late injury to Sol Campbell meant a surprise call up for Lescott.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • Although Terry and Ferdinand are regarded as Steve McLaren's first choice centre backs, Lescott is believed to have brought in to provide cover for the two.

McLaren has made several changes to his squad in light of England's injury situation, and already added Heskey to his squad yesterday. Lescott is unlikely to get his first caps for England in the games against Russia and Israel as Micah Richards is expected to be third choice centre back if required.
