Manchester United confirm five-year deal for 23-year-old star

Henderson signs long-term deal at Man United

Manchester United confirm five-year deal for 23-year-old star

26 August 2020 - 20:31

Manchester United have confirmed that goalkeeper Dean Henderson has put-to-paper on a new long-term deal.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The 23-year-old has signed a fresh five-year contract with the Red Devils with the option for another 12 months.

"The faith that the manager and the club have shown in me with this contract means a lot to me and will continue my progression as a goalkeeper," He told the club's official website.

Henderson spent the previous two seasons on loan with Sheffield United where he helped them secure promotion from the Championship and finish ninth in the Premier League.

A third year at Bramall Lane was unlikely to happen and the Blades have already found a replacement in the form of Aaron Ramsdale, who made the switch from relegated Bournemouth.

Henderson is expected to compete with David de Gea for the number one role next season and that should pave the way for the departure of Sergio Romero after five years at the club.

The Argentine has not got the chance to prove himself despite De Gea's average run of form in recent years. He has been linked with both Everton and Leeds United.
